Pattern 1: Seven Hebrew Words

Pattern Statement:

Genesis 1:1 contains exactly seven Hebrew words. Therefore, its word count is evenly divisible by 7.

Text being tested

בראשית ברא אלהים את השמים ואת הארץ

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”

The calculations use the traditional Masoretic Hebrew consonantal text shown above. Vowel points, cantillation marks, spaces, and punctuation are not counted as letters.

Why this pattern matters

This pattern is the starting point of the theory. It measures a simple structural property: the total number of words in the verse.

How this pattern is measured

For this test, a word is a Hebrew textual unit separated by a space in the displayed verse. Prefixes attached to a Hebrew word remain part of that word.

Count the total number of words in Genesis 1:1. The pattern is satisfied if that total is divisible by 7.

Result for Genesis 1:1

7 words ÷ 7 = 1, with no remainder

Genesis 1:1 contains 7 Hebrew words, so it satisfies the defined criterion for Pattern 1.

Probability note

This first pattern should not be assigned a standalone probability without defining the comparison set and the distribution of sentence lengths. Its significance is evaluated through the corpus and randomized control tests described elsewhere on this site.

Notes

This is one pattern in the larger theory and should be evaluated together with the full set of patterns, rules, and control tests.

Supporting tables

The first table verifies that Genesis 1:1 contains seven Hebrew words and 28 letters. The numerical-value and alphabet-position tables are included as reference data used by later patterns.

In all three tables, the seven data rows correspond in order to the seven Hebrew words listed in the first table.

Hebrew final letter forms use the same traditional numerical value and alphabet position as their corresponding standard letter forms. For example, final tsadi (ץ) is assigned the value 90 and position 18.

“Traditional Hebrew Letter Values” refers to the conventional numerical values commonly used in Hebrew gematria. “Hebrew Alphabet Positions” numbers the letters in order from aleph as 1 through tav as 22.
