Pattern 49: Six Contiguous Word Ranges Are Divisible by 37

Pattern Statement:

The seven traditional Hebrew word values in Genesis 1:1 have 28 possible contiguous ranges. Exactly six of those ranges have totals evenly divisible by 37.

Why this pattern matters

Pattern 40 identified every subset of the seven word values whose total is divisible by 37. Pattern 49 applies the more restrictive condition that the selected words must be consecutive in the verse. Exactly six contiguous ranges satisfy that condition.

How this pattern is measured

The seven traditional Hebrew word values are:

913, 203, 86, 401, 395, 407, and 296.

A seven-word sentence has 7 + 6 + 5 + 4 + 3 + 2 + 1 = 28 possible nonempty contiguous ranges. Add the word values in each of those 28 ranges and test whether the total is evenly divisible by 37. Exactly six ranges pass the test.

Result for Genesis 1:1

Result for Genesis 1:1

Words 1–5:
913 + 203 + 86 + 401 + 395 = 1,998 = 37 × 54

Words 1–6:
913 + 203 + 86 + 401 + 395 + 407 = 2,405 = 37 × 65

Words 1–7:
2,701 = 37 × 73

Word 6:
407 = 37 × 11

Words 6–7:
407 + 296 = 703 = 37 × 19

Word 7:
296 = 37 × 8

These are all six qualifying contiguous ranges. None of the other 22 contiguous ranges has a total divisible by 37.

Structural relationship: These six results are not independent. Word 6 equals 37 × 11, and word 7 equals 37 × 8. Therefore, their combined value is also divisible by 37. Similarly, words 1–5 total 37 × 54, so extending that range by words 6 and 7 produces additional multiples of 37.

Relationship to Pattern 40: These six contiguous ranges are included among the 23 unrestricted subsets reported in Pattern 40. Pattern 49 does not introduce six additional subset results; it identifies the contiguous structure within the earlier complete subset calculation.

Probability status

No stand-alone probability is assigned on this page. The six qualifying ranges are mathematically related, and they are included within the subset results already reported in Pattern 40. A meaningful frequency could instead be measured by applying the identical contiguous-range test to a defined collection of comparable seven-word passages.
