Pattern 57: “The Earth” Occurs 73 Times in Numbers

Pattern Statement:

The seventh Hebrew word of Genesis 1:1 is הארץ (ha’aretz), translated “the earth.” This exact Hebrew word occurs 73 times in the book of Numbers, matching God’s prime number 73.

Why this pattern matters

The Torah-wide distribution of הארץ produces both members of the prime pair: 37 occurrences in Exodus, 37 in Leviticus, and 73 in Numbers.

The Exodus and Leviticus counts are presented separately in Patterns 55 and 56.

How this pattern is measured

Search the Hebrew text of Numbers for the exact four-letter word הארץ and count every occurrence.

The count is for the complete spelling הארץ, including its initial letter ה, rather than for other forms of the Hebrew word for “earth” or “land.”

The count was obtained from the Hebrew text contained in torah.txt.

Result

הארץ occurs exactly 73 times in Numbers.

Relationship to Patterns 55 and 56

Patterns 55–57 use the same Hebrew word and the same exact-word counting method. Their results are therefore related observations and should not be treated as three statistically independent tests.
